Rally car champion and action sports star Ken Block has died at the age of 55 in a snowmobile accident in Utah.
The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said Block was walking down a steep slope around 2 p.m. Monday when the snowmobile he was riding in flipped and landed on top of him.
Block was riding with a group but alone at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the injuries sustained in the accident.
Last week, Block was performing stunts in Idaho aboard a new, more powerful snowmobile. He even admitted how her strength surprised him.

In an Instagram story on Monday, he posted, “Hell yeah!” When he approached a row of snowmobiles parked, ready to ride.
On Monday, hours before his death, he wrote, “It’s been snowing in Park City, Utah this week with more to come this weekend, and we won’t be able to get out on the ranch without our SkiDoo skis and KubotaUSA machines to pave the way!” I can’t wait to see how much powder stacks up over the next few days.
Widely known as a rally car racing champion, Block has been involved in the sport since the mid-2000s and has achieved numerous podium finishes.

But in addition to his rally car racing success finishing on the podium dozens of times, Block was an action sports fan and also competed in motocross, skateboarding, driving UTVs, snowboarding, and snowboarding.
He has been a well-known social media personality with 7.5 million followers on Instagram and 2 million subscribers to his YouTube channel.
He also co-founded DC Shoes with business partner Damon Way in 1994.
His family was also with him in Utah at the time of the accident after they had vacationed together at a mountain lodge.
His team, Hoonigan, released a statement expressing their grief.
Ken was a visionary, pioneer and icon. And most importantly, father and husband. We will miss him incredibly.
Block took 16 victories in 60 Rally America events from 2005 to 2014 and won five X Games medals.

Block is survived by his wife, Lucy, and three children, including 16-year-old daughter Leah, who is also a driver and has competed with her father for the Hoonigan Racing team since she was 11 years old.
