An Unforgettable New Year’s Eve is a tear-jerking episode every season Dancing with the starsbut tonight’s performances were particularly poignant.
The ten remaining celebrity competitors opened their hearts and paid tribute to the most memorable year of their lives with a mix of contemporary routines, Viennese waltzes and more ballroom styles – but it was a delicate waltz performed in tribute to late head judge Len Goodman. First up, Mira Sorvino, the cult classic star Romy and Michele meet in high school, danced a contemporary routine to Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” which fans will remember as Sorvino’s “Rummy Song,” and Michelle Lisa Kudrow and Sandy Alan Cumming danced to it at their reunion. But instead of Kudrow, Sorvino — whose most memorable year was the year she started her family — danced alongside her daughter Mattia, a contemporary dancer.
Charity Lawson got down to earth with a contemporary emotional routine that honors the year she found love And the bachelorette And the bumpy road you took to get there. She and her partner Artem Chigvintsev began their performance atop a metal bar structure and impressed the judges with their acrobatic skills. “What you just did is what people will remember about this season,” Carrie Ann Inaba told Charity before giving her top 10 from the season. Later in the episode, Princess Marvel star Xochitl Gomez also received 10 points for her Quinceañera-themed Viennese Waltz.
In the middle of the episode are Derek and Julianne Hough, current and returning pros Dancing with the stars Alums Kim Herjavec, Anna Trebunskaya, Karina Smirnov, Edita Sliwinska, Tony Dovolanyi, Louis van Amstel, Max Chmerkovskiy and Mark Ballas paid tribute to Goodman, who died in April.
