Almost a score less than perfect, Wordle knocked me off the track today. I rarely have a five- or six-course Wordle that can’t be a four-course solution if I think more clearly or check my list of used solutions beforehand. But I can appreciate that the game provides a mental map of the good days and the bad days. It’s like the Rorschach test. The word does not lie. How many times have you wished you could undo, and delete a word you guessed by simply hitting “enter”?

I would attribute some of my difficulty to choosing an inappropriate starting word. This game seemed like a round-up of the seemingly endless list of English language words ending in Y. ENTRY brought me a misplaced R. With RISKY, my attempt to change the position of the letter R failed. BRINY was wrong – I knew the word didn’t have an N or an I in it. If it was my way, I’d give you my result without that guess. I would have been happier with my solution.

I guessed moray eel, a type of eel, because I was searching in the depths of my head for R-centered words, but the solution became apparent with the additional information I got from that guess. I survive, hardly at five guesses, and I live to fight another day. Did your Wordle score betray your state of mind today, or is that just me?
