Nathaniel Hackett asked for help, got Jerry Rosberg

USA Today Sports

To his credit, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett knew he needed help making good decisions and making them more quickly. After a week two win over Texas – a win that looked like a loss – Hackett asked.

Thus began the process of hiring retired assistant Jerry Rosberg. Hackett told GM George Patton that Hackett needed help. Patton agreed, and most importantly, the royal did not hesitate to add another assistant to the 25-man training staff.

They identified Jerry Rosberg as a possible addition on Monday. He attended training on Wednesday and Thursday, and the arrangement was completed on Friday.

Rosburg’s help won’t be limited to playing days. Rosburg will be working with Hackett during the week with various scenarios, aiming to get Hackett to make a quick decision, and the right one.

That was the problem with the fateful decision to attempt a 64-yard field goal at the end of a first-week loss to the Seahawks. Hackett made a timely decision. I just made the wrong decision.

Rosberg will now help him make the right decisions. If it works, we’ll never hear about it. If it doesn’t, it will be worse for the first year coach who may not win a second time.
