Kelly Stafford raised some eyebrows when she said that her husband, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, is, too Struggling to connect with his younger colleagues. But Matthew Stafford says those comments in the Rams dressing room didn’t matter much.
Stafford said the media took Kelly’s comments and ran with them, but the players didn’t pay much attention to them.
“I think that’s more from you guys than anything else,” Stafford told reporters. “I was going to come out here with a newspaper under my arm and some glasses. Set the mood, but it turns out you can’t even find a newspaper here, so I couldn’t do that. I was going to try to enjoy it, but no, it was great. I love coming to work I love working with these guys and they all know it.
Stafford said he “absolutely” communicates with his teammates and that he doesn’t need to address his wife’s comments with them.
“No, I think these guys understand where I’m coming from. They see me come into this building every day and they know how I go to work, they know how I interact with everybody, and we haven’t given much thought to it to be honest with you,” Stafford said.
In the end, Stafford said, there was no problem either with his wife’s comments or his ability to communicate with his teammates.
“I’m not too worried about it,” Stafford said. “No one in the dressing room is worried about it, I can promise you that. We’ve completely gotten over it, we’ve never stopped thinking about it, to be honest with you. But yeah, I’m not too worried about it.”
The 35-year-old Stafford leads the young Rams team in a preseason start Sunday in Seattle.
