Kristen Stewart in the gay bodybuilding movie

Kristen Stewart returns to the big screen, in her first role since David Cronenberg’s 2022 horror film Future Crimes, in Love Lies Bleeding, a romantic thriller. From A24.

In Love Lies Bleeding, Stewart plays a gym manager, Lou, who meets a bodybuilder named Jackie (Katie M. O’Brien), who has stopped in town and intends to go to Las Vegas to pursue her bodybuilding dreams. Lou falls in love with Jackie, but their strained relationship is disrupted when the two face serious threats from Lou’s criminal father. The trailer shows their romantic spark and the bloody mayhem that ensues.

O’Brien previously starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Mandalorian, and will appear in Twisters next year. Most recently, Stewart received a 2022 Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role as Princess Diana in “Spencer.”

The film also stars Ed Harris (“Apollo 13”) as Lou’s father, Jena Malone (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”), and Dave Franco (“Now You See Me”).

Director Rose Glass and Weronika Tovelska co-wrote the screenplay. Andrea Cornwell and Oliver Cassman serve as producers, and the film is a co-production between A24 and Film 4. This is Glass’s second film since 2019’s psychological horror film “Saint Maud,” about the twisted relationship of a deeply religious caregiver with her patient. The film was highly acclaimed, receiving 17 nominations at the 2020 British Independent Film Awards.

“Love Lies Bleeding” is scheduled to premiere on January 20, 2024 at the Sundance Film Festival. The film’s release date has not been announced yet, but audiences are expected to see it in theaters soon after.
