Jimmy Kimmel’s son undergoes third open-heart surgery

The late night host revealed that Jimmy Kimmel’s 7-year-old son, Billy, successfully underwent his third open-heart surgery over the weekend.

Kimmel shared the news on Instagram share On Monday, he wrote: “This weekend, our son Billy had his third open heart surgery (of three, we hope). We went into this experience with as much optimism and as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy baby. His message is accompanied by a photo of Billy smiling in a hospital bed.

Billy, who Kimmel shares with wife Molly McInerney, was born with a congenital heart condition in 2017. A month after his son was born, the host returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live! With the Emotional monologue In it, he revealed that Billy’s official diagnosis was “tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia,” meaning his pulmonary valve was blocked and there was a hole in his heart.

Kimmel added in his Instagram post on Monday: “Thank you to my wife Molly for being stronger than is reasonable for any mother and Billy, you are the toughest (and funniest) 7 year old we know.”

The host went on to thank Billy’s team of doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “Walking through this hospital, meeting the most vulnerable parents, the children in pain, and the miracle workers doing everything they can to save them, is a humbling experience,” he wrote. “We hope you never need CHLA, but if you do — know that it helps families regardless of their ability to pay, thanks in large part to the Affordable Care Act (another shout-out to the late Sen. John McCain), and generous donations from … Like Disney, I’m proud to work for it especially from generous people like you.
