GOP senator says House Jan. 6 committee should investigate after tapes are released

Former Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) are the panel’s only Republican members.

“Maybe they’re not even looking for them. Maybe they’re not even questioning their own narrative,” he continued. “Maybe they’re too busy cherry-picking and leaking text messages from Republicans they want to defeat.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Friday began releasing 40,000 hours of security camera footage from the Capitol riots.

“This decision will give millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations and the media the ability to see for themselves what happened that day, rather than relying on the interpretation of a small group of government officials,” Johnson said.

1,100 people have been charged with crimes related to the January 6 capital riots and 400 with assaulting police officers. The rioters caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage to the capitol building, the architect of the capitol said.
