Warriors veteran Draymond Green and former Warriors star Kevin Durant have taken up arms in defense of the NBA after the track and field star was called up by the league.

Sprinter Noah Lyles recently won three gold medals for the United States at the World Track and Field Championships, winning the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100 relay. He told reporters on Friday that he discredits him as the true world champion when American sports leagues willy-nilly throw the term around.

“Don’t get me wrong. I love the United States — sometimes — but that’s not the world. We’re the world. We have just about every country that fights and thrives and puts up its flag to show that it’s represented. There are no flags in the NBA.”

NBA players took notice as soon as she entered the bait mill of social media interaction.

The argument for NBA players is that they play in the best professional league in the world. Therefore, the title of “world champion” is not entirely a misnomer, as the team that wins the title is the best of all time.

The converse of that is that while the teams are the best, and the player makeup is more international than ever, it is still a rivalry between American teams. Lyles knocked out every American runner, as well as the best of Jamaica, Europe and Africa. Durant and Green were hitting the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers.

What’s particularly interesting about all of this is that there’s an actual international basketball competition happening right now that the United States is a part of, and it’s a competition that many of the best American players in the game have decided not to compete in because they value the NBA title more than the NBA title. Cup title. This is certainly not the case for non-US teams.

However, players like Durant and Green put their money where their mouth is, competing in the Olympics and winning gold medals. Perhaps this is also the reason why they chose to stay home and engage in an argument about the semantics of words online this time around. If there was a world championship for that, these two would definitely be among the favourites.
