Murder suspect Cash app founder Bob Lee smiles at his family as he makes his first court appearance.
Nima Momeni appeared in court for the first time on Friday after the case sparked a furious debate over public safety in the city.
As the suspect appeared in court wearing an orange jumpsuit, his sister and another woman raised their hands in the shape of a heart as the suspect smiled at them.
“The truth will come out, it’s basically wrong to be in the press,” Mr Momeni’s lawyer told reporters.
At a press conference announcing Mr Momeni’s arrest on Thursday, San Francisco officials said the two men knew each other but declined to provide details.
A family friend of Lee’s said later San Francisco Chronicle The two tech executives are thought to have known each other through Mr Momeni’s sister, whom Lee had known recently.
The friend said the pair had been hanging out together on the night of the brutal stabbing.

The PR executive says the suspect is a ‘very nice, welcoming person’
Sam Singer, a San Francisco-area PR executive who had an office next door to the suspected killer, said the arrest came as a shock.
Mr Singer described Mr Momeni in comments as a “very nice, welcoming guy”. KTVU.
Mr Singer was invited to Mr Momeni’s home The Chronicle He found Mr Momeni “hot”. Thereafter, Mr Momeni gave some business cards to Mr Singer, offering his services.

A woman entered an apartment building and yelled the suspect’s name before being stabbed
Residents said a woman entered the building where Mr Momeni lived at around 2.30am the night before Mr Lee’s death and started shouting his name. Los Angeles Times.
According to posts on a building social media group, the woman left after neighbors called the police and threatened her. It is unclear if the incident is related to Lee’s death.

Mr Momeni, 38, allegedly stabbed a 43-year-old man after an argument while driving in San Francisco’s Rincon Hill on April 4.
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott confirmed at a press conference on Thursday that Mr Momeni had been charged with one count of murder.
The suspect was arrested early Thursday morning at an Emeryville address in the Bay Area.

He worked as a consultant for several years before starting Expand IT in 2010.
A search of property records showed Mr. Momeni owns an apartment at 4053 Harlan St. in Emeryville that he bought in 2020 for $525,000.
Mr Momeni was arrested at around 5am on April 13 at an address in Emeryville.
Shocked residents reported seeing large numbers of police officers outside the address KCPS.

Nima Momeni will appear in court today
A man accused of murdering Bob Lee will make his first court appearance today.
Nima Momeni will appear in her arraignment on Friday afternoon (4:30 p.m. ET) at 1:30 p.m., where lawyers will ask a judge to deny her bail.
He is charged with murder and faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted.
