Move over a Tesla Model S (TSLA) and Mercedes-Benz EQS (MGB.DE), here’s a new top of the line electric sedans.
BMW (BMW.DE) Remove the caps from the top of the line completely new 7 seriesWith three new models, including an electric version for the first time.
The all-wheel drive EV version, dubbed the i7 xDrive60, features two electric motors that make 536 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque. The car can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, says BWM, and will have an estimated range of 300 miles.
The i7 is BMW’s third electric car, following the launch of the new i4 sedan and iX SUV.
The new 7 Series features an updated exterior design scheme, with less aggressive kidney grills at the front and a slimmer, sleeker front hood. BMW says this updated front end will only appear on its top models from now on.
Under the i7’s angular skin lies a lot of new technology that BMW likes to showcase in its top models. Underneath the dashboard is a new curved glass display that consists of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch control screen under the center console.
BMW’s “interaction bar” has also appeared on the new 7 Series, which BMW describes as a “control/operating and design element” that extends across the full width of the instrument panel and into the door panel frame housing the touch-sensitive control panels for ventilation and climate control.
Technology and comfort extend to the rear, too, where the ‘Executive Lounge’ option offers reclining seating with integrated leg rests. The seats and interior surfaces can be lined with premium materials such as leather and cashmere.
Also at the rear of the cabin is the world’s first 31-inch 8K touchscreen display that can be projected from the car’s roof, dubbed the “BMW Theater Screen”. The optional theater display is powered by Amazon Fire TV and can use all popular streaming apps and video games.
When the BMW Theater Screen is on, the side window blinds, the rear window, the panoramic glass sunroof and the ambient lighting in the rear cabin close. The only thing missing was a popcorn popper and 32 ounces of soda.
In addition to the i7, the 7 Series will come with two other engines, the 740i powered by a twin-turbo V6, and the 760i xDrive which features a twin-turbo V8 that comes paired with a 48-volt light-hybrid electronic engine housed in the car’s 8-speed automatic transmission.
However, all the great tech, looks, and features come at a cost. The i7 xDrive60 starts at $119,300, the base 740i starts at $93,000, and the moderately hybrid 760i xDrive at $113,600.
Customers can pre-order a BMW i7 with a deposit of $1,500 in BMW site.
