ASUS ROG Ally Laptop with Ryzen Z1 Non-Extreme APU is now available for $599

ROG Ally is now available with the non-extreme Ryzen Z1 processor

ASUS launches a Ryzen Z1-based laptop.

Shortly after Steam announced a temporary price cut for its Steam Deck controllers, ASUS is introducing more affordable versions of its portable ROG Ally. Although they unveiled this model with the smaller AMD Phoenix APU back in June, it was scheduled for a late Q3 release. As of now, that launch has happened, and the console is either shipping or available for pre-order, depending on the region and retailer.

The RC71L-Z1512 is powered by the Ryzen Z1 processor, which features a 6-core Zen4/Zen4c APU and 4 RDNA3 compute units. This represents a significant drop in GPU performance compared to the 8-core Zen4 and 12 CU RDNA3 Ryzen Z1 Extreme. However, it comes at a price tag of $100 less. It should be noted that both devices come with a storage capacity of 512 GB, and there is no information about the availability of 256 GB or 1 TB models at the present time.

ROG Ally controllers feature a 7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution. Because it’s built on AMD hardware, it offers support for AMD FreeSync Premium, as well as FSR (FidelityFX) and RSR (Radeon) Supersolution technologies. The platform is equipped with 16GB LPDDR5-6400 memory, which cannot be manually upgraded. ASUS does not currently offer higher memory options.

Similar to the Ryzen Z1 Extreme edition, the Z1 model also supports XG Mobile external GPU support. This special connector can be used with external graphics provided by ASUS, which are much more expensive than the console itself. However, it can be a viable option for those who need a powerful docking solution to improve the performance of high-resolution external displays.
