Mexican prosecutors have obtained an arrest warrant for a friend of a North Carolina woman was found dead Cabo was on vacation in San Lucas last month and called Thursday’s death the result of a “direct attack.”

Shankvella Robinson, 25, was traveling with college friends from Winston-Salem State University when she was found dead at a vacation rental property, her father, Bernard Robinson, said.

Robinson, along with six friends, arrived in Mexico on Oct. 28, according to a Thursday report by Mexican prosecutors working on extradition proceedings to their country’s attorney general and foreign ministry.

Prosecutors said evidence showed the death was a “direct attack, not an accident” and implicated one of the victim’s female friends.

Mexican authorities did not name the suspect, but confirmed he is an American citizen believed to be in the United States. No one has been charged in the case, and authorities have not released the names of Robinson’s friends.

CNN reached out to the US State Department, the FBI and the US Department of Justice for comment.

The extradition of the suspect, Daniel de la Rosa, Attorney General of Baja California Sur, Mexico, was underway. told local media on Wednesday.

“An arrest warrant has already been issued for the crime of femicide to the detriment of the victim and a friend of one who is responsible for these acts,” De La Rosa said on Wednesday.

De la Rosa said the death was not caused by a “fight” but by “direct aggression by this person.”

“We are already going through all the procedures related to both the Interpol file and the extradition request,” he said.

Robinson last spoke on the phone with his mother, Salamondra, on the morning of Oct. 28, his father told CNN last week. The next day, Shankella Robinson was found dead in her vacation rental, U.S. and Mexican officials said.

The cause of death was “acute spinal cord injury and atlas luxation,” which is instability or excessive movement of the upper cervical vertebrae, according to a copy of his death certificate. CNN affiliate WBTV. She was found passed out in her rented room on October 29, the document says.

The death certificate classified Robinson’s death as “accidental or violent,” with the approximate time between injury and death being 15 minutes.

Video posted online appears to show a physical altercation inside a room between Robinson and another man. It’s unclear when the video was taken or if it depicts the moment she was injured.

Bernard Robinson confirmed to CNN that the video shows Robinson being thrown to the ground and hit in the head.

It’s unclear what sparked the dispute or how many people were in the room at the time. It is not known if anyone tried to intervene.

The FBI’s Charlotte field office has opened an investigation into Shankella Robinson’s death, it was confirmed Friday.

His father said a week ago that his family was waiting for more information from his friends and Mexican authorities.

“You took my only jewel from me,” he told CNN by phone. “You left a big hole in my heart. All I can do is fight for her; I cannot let her die in vain.
