It appears that any additional content for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may not be quite as stable as we initially thought after the latest update. Famitsu An interview with series producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi seems to indicate that Nintendo currently has no plans for downloadable content (DLC).

Right off the bat, it’s worth noting that we can currently only read the Famitsu interview via Google’s built-in translation function, so there’s a possibility that the point of Aonuma’s response may have been somewhat lost in translation. However, the series producer’s answer seems to imply that TOTK DLC is not currently a concern for Nintendo.

The point in question comes from the end of the interview, where Aonuma and Fujibayashi are asked what they will be working on next. The director suggested that he doesn’t currently know what form his follow-up project will take, though Aonuma provided the following Zelda-related response (via Chrome’s built-in translation tool):

Onuma : There are no plans to release additional content this time, but that’s because I feel like we did everything we could to create fun in this world. Primarily, the reason I decided to make this a sequel to my previous work is because I thought there was value in trying out a new game in this Hyrule setting. If so, if a new reason arises, we may return to the same world again. Whether it’s a sequel or a new work, I think it will be a completely new game, so I hope you’ll look forward to it.

There’s a possibility that the series producer is referring to another game set in the same Hyrule as Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, though the context of the rest of the answer seems to indicate that the “additional content” in question is DLC for the latest Link.

This undoubtedly comes as a surprise – BOTW has been treated to two different DLC packs after all – although the sheer size of Tears of the Kingdom does raise the question of what its DLC will look like .

Unless we see some clarifications in the future, we can assume that no additional TOTK content will come our way for the time being. It’s unfortunate, sure, but we suppose it’s as good an excuse as any to finally show that the remaining 70% of Hyule that was staring at us a few months ago is fine now…
