Hundreds of flights to and from the United States were postponed and dozens canceled on Sunday amid a busy Labor Day travel weekend.
International travel hubs in Indonesia, Australia, Canada and Sweden topped the list of airports with the most afternoon delays, but US airports were catching up, according to Flight-aware flight tracking website.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport reported 50 delays and five cancellations, the site said – followed in the US by New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, which reported 38 delays as of 2:30 p.m.
In all, 1,345 flights within, within or outside the United States were postponed, the site said, and another 157 were cancelled.
Turkish Airlines reported 628 delays, more than any other airline. Delta and American Airlines report the largest number of delays between US airlines – 197 and 179, respectively.
Flight frustrations come after more than 3,600 US flights I’m late Saturday.
AAA forecast that 32% of Americans plan to travel this Labor Day weekend.
It expected the Labor Day weekend to be its busiest in three years, according to a Fox Weather report.
On Thursday, the Department of Transportation said it launched a dashboard to serve airline customers, bringing “significant changes” from all but one of the top 10 US airlines.
“Passengers deserve transparency and clarity about what to expect from an airline when there is a cancellation or disruption,” Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. “This dashboard collects information in one place so that travelers can easily understand their rights, compare airline practices and make informed decisions.”
