    Top 6 Web-Based Email Applications - Thunderbird

If you use Mozilla as your Internet browser, chances are you are probably usingThunderbird. It is an open source email application. Not only can you customize your email system; you can listen to music, make VoIP calls, and manage birth dates all from your in-box.

If you are a developer, you will love the fact that you can build extensions. For example, you can use the QuickMove feature to assign keyboard shortcuts. That way, you can move messages to your assigned folders. Another extension you can use is the Search box, which enables you to use advanced operators, such asfrom:orto:in your search terms.

Take advantage of Thunderbird's Advanced Folder Views feature to manage your in-box. This feature enables you to organize your folders in different ways. For example, you can organize them either by favorites, folders that consist of unread messages, or recently viewed folders. You can also create RSS and newsgroups. That way, you will not miss any important news. Use descriptors, such as "To Do" or "Done," to perform "tag" messages. Navigate through your history for email messages by clicking on the "back" and "forward" buttons. That way, you can switch back and forth between your messages and folder views.

Mozilla has made Thunderbird more secure. Its phishing protection feature tries to block email scams from getting your personal information, such as your bank account number or social security number. When you click on the link to go to the website, Thunderbird will alert you that it's a different website address than the one that's in your email message. That way, you can verify if this is the website you want to visit. Thunderbird also offers a privacy feature, which automatically prevents remote images from appearing in your email messages.

Thunderbird helps you in getting rid of junk email. Each email will go through Thunderbird's junk mail filters. Then when you mark the message as spam, Thunderbird is "intelligent" in that it will block these messages from coming into your in-box in the future.
