Final Thoughts
We've come to the end of this review. Now it's time for us to draw some conclusions. The pros and cons of the Genius SW-HF5.1 5000 audio system are summed up in the following bullet points. My conclusion follows regarding the system.
Pros
Wooden, robust, and high quality enclosures for speakers.
Great dimensions, especially the subwoofer, but the satellites are also quite impressive.
Decent performance on the entire frequency range.
Cons
Distortions on very high frequencies.
Lack of equalizer, headphone inputs, VU-meter.
Unable to handle bass redirection - lack of on-board bass management.
Summing all this up, the Genius SW-HF5.1 5000 is a truly decent mid-end audio system that performs quite impressively for its price. It should suffice for most average users, specifically the ones hooking it up with DVD players and turning it into a home theater. In my opinion, it's more than enough for watching Dolby AC-3 movies.
On the other hand, audiophile freaks should realize that this multimedia system isn't the latest and greatest. Thus, we cannot claim that it could replace professional systems and such. Although, like I said, from a price-vs.-performance perspective, it's really decent. If you spend a few minutes to fine-tune it for your needs, it can exceed your expectations, assuming you have the right tools (high-end sound card) and skills.
All in all, we're handing out a combined 7 points out of 10. We subtracted 3 points mostly because of the lack of internal bass management, slight-to-mediocre distortions depending on volume and type of tones and frequency range, and we also missed the equalizer. It's a great choice for people wanting a decent 5.1 system without wanting to shell out hundreds of dollars. You may find it a bargain as an OEM.
