    Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu Review - The CNPS7000A-AlCu

    CNPS7000A-AlCu

The CNPS7000A-AlCu comes neatly in plastic packaging. Nothing is hidden here; you can see the cooler in its entirety from the front and back of the clear packaging. These coolers are packed to be sold on a store shelf; hopefully the AlCu isn't all show. From the back you can see the CNPS7000A-AlCu's specifications, features, installation method for socket 478/754/462, and base.

Included with the Zalman cooler are three mounting kits for the three sockets it can be installed on, a case sticker, some thermal paste, FAN MATE 1, and instruction manual. The kit in the upper left corner is for socket 462 (Athlon), bottom left is for socket 754 (Athlon 64), and to the right is for socket 478 (Intel P4).

The CNPS7000A is striking and sure to make heads turn if installed in a windowed case. From these pictures you can see the fins, which create a total surface area of 3170 square cm. Each fin has Zalman punched into it and are super thin like the rest of Zalman's heatsinks.

Starting from the bottom is where the 7000A is screwed securely into varying mounting kit depending on the socket. Next are two bolts that secure the 92mm fan at the center of the heatsink, and last is the fan.

From the bottom you get a better view of the screw holes used to mount the cooler. Also you can see that all the fins come together to form the base. The ratio between aluminum to copper clearly favors aluminum as shown by the difference in color in both the fins and base. Just how much better this AlCu cooler performs than an all aluminum 7000A will never be known since the latter does not exist, but clearly what copper is used is being used strategically. In this case the copper fins run through the center of the base where most the heat will be concentrated.

A closer shot of the base shows how the fins come together to form the base. How Zalman manufactures this, I don't know, but it sure looks interesting.

Here is a final shot of the fan. Seven fins in all, this 92mm 2-ball bearing fan is quiet and cools the 7000A at two fan speeds 1350 and 2400 RPM using FAN MATE 1.
