Koolance Exos-Al Review - Specifications
The Koolance Exos-Al boasts easy installation as one of its biggest features.
Bring powerful liquid cooling technology to an existing computer! Koolance maintains its reputation for professional products by simplifying installation-- there is no need for special tools or case modifications. Utilizing a patent-pending design, the Exos™-Al connects to any PC through a standard rear card slot.
Other Exos-Al features are quick-connect rear valves for easy transport or disassembly, adapted power connection so the Exos draws power from the power supply and turns on when the computer is on, and optional attachment straps for systems that are "on the go." The Exos-Al does not come with any water blocks, so those need to be purchased separately. Liquid components (such as the radiator, pumps, and LED display) come pre-installed.
| Model | Exos-Al |
| Product Dimensions WxHxD | 7.25" 3.75" 18.5" (18.4cm x 9.5cm x 47cm) |
| Packaged Dimensions WxHxD | 9.75" 5.5" x 21.4" (24.77cm x 13.97cm x 54.36cm) |
| Product Weight | 4 pounds (1.8kg) |
| Shipping Weight | 9 pounds (4.08kg) |
At four pounds, the Exos-Al is over 3 pounds lighter than the original 7.3 pound Exos. The unit's dimensions remain the same however, so this decrease in weight is purely due to the aluminum being used. The Exos utilizes three 80mm fans to cool its internal radiator. These fans can run in three modes:
Mode 1 operates your system at 45% power until the temperature reaches 54°C (124°F), then increases to 100% power.
Mode 2 operates your system at 45% power until the temperature reaches 36°C (97°F), then increases gradually to 100% at 50°C (122°F).
Mode 3 runs the cooling system at 100% power. While this will provide the best temperature range, it is not the most silent, and largely unnecessary in operating your Koolance system.
The temperature that dictates how Modes 1 and 2 work is the temperature read from the Exos-Al's thermal probe, so it is pretty important to install the probe properly. On the front of the Exos-Al is a LED labeled "Accel" for accelerated. When this is lit, the Exos is running above 45% power.
The water block that will be tested with the Exos-Al, the CPU-300-H06, is designed for heat sources up to 300W. It supports AMD Athlon/XP, Intel P-4, Intel P-III, Intel Xeon, and AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron/FX-51 - basically every desktop processor available today. An available Xeon adapter is required for socket 603 or 604 Xeon support. The H06 water block is specifically for 1/4" (6mm) internal diameter tubing which is Koolance's standard hose size. V10 and V13 variants of the CPU-300 are available which are for 3/8" (10mm) and 1/2" (13mm) ID tubing respectively.
| Model | CPU-300-H06 |
| Tubing Size (ID) | 1/4", 6mm |
| Weight | 9.5 ounces (269g) |
| Dimensions WxHxD | 2.5" x 3" x 1.1" (6.4cm x 7.6cm x 2.9cm) |
| Base Materials | Pure Copper, 21k Gold Plated |
The CPU-300-H06 improves upon the older CPU-200G with screw on compression fittings, smaller dimensions to fit P4 and AMD64 platforms, greater water capacity, metal reinforced center, greater base area, and increased internal surface area. Also very important, the high-density copper coldplate used in the CPU-300-H06 is gold-plated all over. It helps prevent both inside electrolytic reactions and outside oxidation (since copper is relatively sensitive).
