Evercool Neon Crab - Testing Game Temperatures and Results

The next set of tests I ran were for the avid gamer's out there. I used Morrowind: Elder Scrolls III and Deus Ex: Invisible War for these tests. Each game was running on higher graphical settings to elicit higher temps. I played through the same areas for 20 minutes in order to record the sample temps in each game.

Again Evercool's Neon Crab excels at keeping the temps of the memory modules down to a reasonable level. The real question is, "Will you see any performance gains with these lower temps?"

The short answer is: no. I don't overclock my computer anymore but I know quite a few people who do, and the help memory cooling provides for overclocking is negligible to non-existent. If you're not overclocking anyway then the only benefit besides the Neon Crab looking cool is a possible lower overall case temp, but again this temp difference would be hardly noticeable.

So while the Neon Crab does its job of lowering memory module temperatures the need for this is questionable. However, if you look at it by factoring in the undeniable fact the thing looks wicked in your rig and then adding that it might possibly be helping the temps in your system might make it worthwhile for you.

    Pros

    • Simple yet effective clamping mechanism.
    • LED "eyes" flicker in just the right way.
    • It does keep temps significantly lower.
    • It looks all cool and stuff, especially for a mod case.

    Cons

    • Some type of lateral stabilizer would be nice.
    • Though temps are lowered, performance gain is questionable.
    • If you don't have a windowed case, this isn't for you.

That's it for our look at the Evercool Neon Crab memory cooler. We'd like to thank Evercool for supplying the product, you can check out their homepage if you want. Otherwise head over to our homepage or stop by and chat with us in our forum.
