The laptop card also was extremely easy to install and configure; you just insert the PCMCIA card into an available card bus slot, insert the software CD and click through some simple configuration screens:

As you can see from the first screenshot, the installation and configuration utility is attractively presented. The wizard takes just four clicks to complete and the input required really is minimal, simply a case of confirming things and choosing an install location.
Once installed, you’ll notice two new icons in your system tray; the Windows wireless network connection indicator, and the Netgear administration utility icon. The Windows one can be ignored as the Netgear interface will display red when disconnected and green when connected; in fact, you can even turn this off so that your system tray doesn’t become overcrowded. Double-click the Netgear icon to open the administration utility:

This is me, connected to the network at full speed and maximum signal; I’m in the same room, perhaps four metres away from the router. It was very easy to use my PSK (Pre-Shared Key) to pass the router authentication and simple to change from the default 58Mbps connection speed to the full 108Mbps.
