    ASUS P5N-E SLI - BIOS

    BIOS

This is your basic BIOS. It's not much to talk about, though you do get a nice range of clocks and voltage for overclocking. I couldn’t find anything special worth noting.

I did, however, run into that nasty little problem of the RAM by default not getting enough juice to run and get into the BIOS. I managed, but it was a hassle trying to figure out why the computer wasn't booting up like it should be.

This is the second board with which I have run into this problem, with two different sets of RAM. This looks like a serious flaw with the motherboards that I would hope be fixed.

    Overclocking

This is a good overclocking motherboard, which is what I expect from ASUS. I was able to max out my FSB at 420, which is where the CPU seems to crap out.

One thing I did notice is that the cheap heatsink on the chipset heats up, and heats up fast. Just playing around in the BIOS, the heatsink became too hot to even touch. I think this is a very bad thing.

The chipset was clearly making contact with the heatsink, as it was this that was hot, so I know it was good as far as that. I can’t believe that ASUS would allow this on a motherboard. I would highly recommend a fan over the chipset. There is no way this would run without one.
