    Palm Pixi for Sprint

If you are looking to get into the smartphone game, there’s a new player in town: the Palm Pixi for Sprint. While the name may sound a bit silly or child-like, the Pixi does provide you with tons of features and some of the functionality found on the popular previously-released Palm Pre. Keep reading for a closer look.

A solid, yet streamlined design with both touch-screen capabilities and a full QWERTY keyboard comes as part of the package, making the Pixi a great entry level smartphone for casual users. It does have some drawbacks, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. You can get the Palm Pixi for $99.99 after rebates and a two-year contract from Sprint.

There are many features to list on the Pixi, so let’s get the standard ones out of the way first. The phone comes with text and multimedia messaging, a vibrate mode, a speakerphone, an alarm clock, a calculator, conference calling, and speed dial. To help you stay organized, it has a basic task list and a note pad.

Beyond the basics, there is stereo Bluetooth 2.1 that supports such profiles such as hands-free kits, wireless headsets, object push, and more. For working on the go, there is a document viewer that lets you view PDF files as well as documents from Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Although you cannot edit any of the documents, it's still helpful to be able to view them to get a head start on your work.

The Pixi uses Palm’s WebOS 1.3.1 platform that brings several advantages to the phone. It allows the phone to run several applications at once, which is great for multitasking types. It uses a deck-of-cards style that lets you cycle through the various open applications with ease in an organized manner.

Another advantage of the WebOS platform is the way it organizes your calendar data, messaging, and contacts without much of a hassle. Using Palm’s Synergy feature, you can simply enter in your specific account login data and the Pixi will pull your calendars from programs like Outlook, Facebook, Yahoo, and Google. You then have the option to view all of the calendars in a combined format, or each separately. If viewing in the combined mode, each event is color coded to let you know which calendar it came from.

The same method is used for importing your contacts into the Pixi. Just enter your login info from a site such as Facebook or Yahoo, and the Pixi will scrape all the relevant contact information and organize it from various sites into a condensed format. From there you can see all of your contact’s information, minus duplicate entries, and even check their online instant messaging status. You can also view all of your email messages from Microsoft Exchange or popular services like Gmail, Yahoo, and others on the Pixi.
