Top Five DSLR Cameras for 2008 - Canon EOS 450D

Fresh off its April release date, the Canon EOS 450D is a 12.2 MP DSLR camera with a three-inch LCD display, a DIGIC III processor, and a sub-$1,000 price tag. The body of the 450D is rather compact and lightweight, and should prove to be relatively comfortable to hold and carry around when not in use. The 450D comes with a retail price tag of $799 for the body, and $899 for the IS lens kit. The lens in the kit is an EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS model. The lens is of decent quality and should be more than sufficient for first-timers; more advanced photographers may opt for their own EF-S or EF lens.

The extremely bright 3-inch LCD comes in handy when using the 450D's live view mode. The display gives the user a more accurate picture of the shot being taken. This DSLR can also connect to a computer to instantly display photos on the computer screen. It can also be operated remotely from the computer.

The Canon 450D is a relatively fast camera that is capable of speed bursts of 3.5 fps for up to 53 JPEGs or 6 RAW photos. No word yet on the image quality that the 450D is capable of, but you can expect the usual solid image quality for which Canon is known. For under $1,000, this camera is a great choice, and it should be one of the top-selling DSLR cameras in 2008.
