Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Compact Digital Camera - Features
(Page 3 of 4 )
Features
Dual Image Stabilization
The F50fd has a decent dual image stabilization system that works by increasing ISO speeds and adjusting the sensor to compensate for camera shake. The image stabilization technology used in this camera works pretty well, although it's probably not as effective as other cameras' optical image stabilization systems, namely Canon's and Sony's.
Face Detection Technology
The new and improved face detection (hence the F50 fd ) works relatively well in this camera at finding multiple faces in any given shot. With this feature enabled, the camera will find faces in a shot even when the face is not looking at the camera. Most camera's face detection feature requires the subject to be looking directly at the camera in order for it to recognize a face, but the F50fd is able to recognize profiles pretty well.
Movie Mode
Like most other current digital cameras, the F50fd is able to take video with sound. This camera will take video in two different sizes: 640 x 480 or 320 x 240. Videos are limited to 2 GB in size at any one time, which is quite a bit of video.
There are a couple of downfalls of the movie mode, including the fact that video is recorded at only 25 frames per second (fps), whereas most other new cameras will take video at a smoother 30 fps rate. The other downfall of the F50fd's video feature is that you can't take advantage of the 3x optical zoom feature while filming. The image stabilization system will work, though, so you can get pretty steady video with this camera.
High ISO Capabilities
Like its predecessors, the F50fd is capable of reaching ISO levels higher than most other comparable compacts. This camera will reach levels up to ISO 1600 at the full 12 MP. You can take it a step further and go up to ISO 3200, but the resolution will fall to 6 MP. Finally, you can take this camera to a ground-breaking level of ISO 6400, but the resolution again drops to 3 MP. At the highest ISO levels you can still manage to get usable small prints with minimal image noise.
