Packard Bell Easy Note R0422 Review - A Few of My Favorite Things

The wide screen of the R0422 is cool. I know that's pretty basic, but my default Dell Latitude C400 makes me hanker after big screen accessories (sometimes I hook up my laptop to a bigger monitor). Apart from the screen its has a very good keyboard interface, big and spacey so you can spread your arms around the laptop. I like the aesthetics. Also the DVD writer/drive supports two different formats of DVD so that's a definite plus. It scores big on aesthetics and ergonomics, but moderate on performance -- it's hard for an AMD processor to fall short.

The price is pretty cool for a new laptop. If they pushed it aggressively enough we could have a vicious pricing war in our hands. It does offer a certain amount of bang for the buck after all said and done. There are few if any extras but if you want extras (FireWire perhaps) go and pick up a Macbook Pro. Some other extras that are missing include Bluetooth or infrared ports.

Who I Would Recommend it for

Students or laptop buyers on a strict budget purchasing this machine would get a very nice looking notebook with a nice processor behind it. Beware of how you use it though; this particular laptop has a history of falling apart! But it would be an excellent piece of equipment for students to use; its cost and aesthetics are good, but beware if you like rock music (as I'll explain in the next section).
