Top100 DB Dijon Johnson complies with UF, decision details

The day got even better for the Florida Gators, as they reached their second commitment on Thursday. The last name added to the class was the UF Championship’s 22nd commitment of 2023 when Tampa (Florida) Defensive Wharton appeared Dijon Johnson. This is a Top100 addition to the 2023 class for Florida, and another big time addition to the high school draw they’ve already added.

Johnson backed away from his early commitment to Ohio State again in the summer, and Florida has been the permanent team he’s been recruiting for ever since. He’s made numerous visits to Florida since the summer, and after seeing his first head coach Billy Napier And his staff working with the program, Johnson knew he wanted to be a part of it.

“Just what they do and what happens,” Johnson said of why Florida was chosen. “They play a lot of hits on the field. I had a great opportunity to get in there and compete and get playing time early. I just love what Coach Napier and his staff are doing. I love that the staff are real people. Coach Napier is a real, real coach. [Corey] Raymond keeps it real. That’s why I chose Florida.”

Florida started trending in this recruitment again in the summer after he visited the campus before the employment reserve opened. However, it wasn’t until the fall when Johnson knew in his head without a doubt that he was going to be Gator.

“A few days after the Utah game, I thought Florida was a place I could live and The Swamp was a place I could play. It’s electric and the atmosphere is like nothing else. A few days ago I really decided on it, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot since the Utah game.”

“The relationships I’ve built with them over the past couple of months have been fantastic. I only spoke with coach Tony, coach Raymond, coach Napier. I even spoke with the strong and conditioning staff and the hiring manager. Everyone in Florida has been hitting I’m Up above and they are great, real people. I love the energy that’s there. in their building.”

Speaking of the future of the Florida program, he appears to be in good hands at Defensive High School. Johnson is now the sixth addition to a high school class in Florida. It’s been a major focus area for the Florida staff this class as you can see, and Johnson is excited about this group and its ability to bolster the Alligator’s defense on the trail.

“I’m definitely excited about the possibilities and the future that’s happening in Gainesville. I see we’re putting Florida back on top and continuing to have the best DB and always getting the best class DB.”

The last remaining target on Florida’s wish list to slash this defensive back class is five-star Cormani McLean. With his commitment now on the books, Johnson plans to join his enlistment in The Swamp.
