The Gigafactory is said to be shutting down production in Berlin in order to upgrade the Tesla factory and add a shift to achieve higher production capacity.

The automaker is doing that at all of its factories, but the declines are most notable at Gigafactory Berlin and Gigafactory Texas, which only recently started production.
The Giga Berlin seemed to do relatively well by using 2170 cells, which enable the battery infrastructure used by Tesla, and it achieved that. A production rate of 1,000 vehicles per week in June.

According to BILD, Tesla plans to halt operations for two weeks starting next Monday. It is unclear how many of the 4,500 employees will be furloughed and how many technicians will be available to replace production.

According to the workers, after the break in production, instead of two shifts, three jobs should be carried out. Additionally, Tesla may begin manufacturing the drive in an adjacent hall.
While the upgrade might help, Gigafactory Berlin’s biggest bottleneck is said to be its workforce.
Over the past few months, there have been several reports that Tesla is having trouble hiring and retaining employees. Some of them suggested that wages were a particular issue and that the local union, IG Metal, was starting to get involved. But Tesla raised pay for many employees by 6% to address concerns.
Tesla will need a significant hiring effort to add a third shift at the plant after the factory restarts later this month.
