SSSniperwolf Doxxing punishment on YouTube is a double standard, creators say

One of YouTube’s most prominent creators was at the center of a firestorm last week, Alia.SSniperwolf“Shalish.

The YouTuber with 34.1 million followers has been in a feud with a fellow creative jackfilmsbecause her work has often been criticized for “stealing” content from other video creators to support her own channel, adding little to the work.

YouTube altercations are nothing new, but they escalated when SSSniperwolf said she knew where he lived and could “visit” him, and then posted a video on her Instagram account filmed outside his home, an act Jacksfilms described as “creepy, disgusting and violating”.

In the aftermath, YouTube came under heavy criticism from creators and fans who said SSSniperwolf should either be punished significantly or removed from the platform entirely, but on Friday, YouTube posted a response to Jacksfilms explaining its ruling, which was only a temporary suspension of the investigation. Income of indefinite length:

There has been a lot of debate over the harshly light punishment, which is little more than a slap on the wrist, when less popular creators’ channels have been de-monetized for months or even banned for much less time, including for crimes as small as a few accidental seconds. From copyright screenshots. There’s an accusation here that YouTube is giving SSSniperwolf a pass for more troubling behaviour, like actual probing by filming outside someone’s home, revealing where they live.

The second problem is that YouTube says that “behavior on both sides is not what we want on YouTube.” Once again, the issue does not appear to be two-sided. Jacksfilms has been calling out SSSniperwolf for a long time due to the type of content it considered plagiarism. Then SSSniperwolf collected it. Giving YouTube equal weight is seen as a problem.

SSSniperwolf is already finished Thanks YouTube to punish her in her apology letter to Jacksfilms and her fans, saying they are “holding her accountable.”

The whole thing has come to light for creators and fans to promote YouTube’s “tiered” system, where a creator can sometimes be so big that they’ll escape more serious consequences that might have obliterated another channel. Maybe this is a euphemism for life, but the situation has probably sparked more outrage on YouTube at this point than on SSSniperwolf itself, which has had its fair share of detractors before this.

We’ll see what happens from here, if Jacksfilms and SSSniperwolf end the feud, or if SSSniperwolf changes the type of content it creates. I’ve asked her for comment, and will update if I hear back. For now, neither she nor YouTube are coming out of this unscathed.
