Shannen Doherty has decided to 'downsize' as she lives with stage 4 cancer

Shannen Doherty She says she's giving up some things because she's living with stage 4 breast cancer.

In the last episode of Her podcast “Let's Be Clear” The 52-year-old actress spoke about how her priorities changed due to her illness.

“It doesn't matter if you have a terminal illness or anything else, I think, yeah, obviously you have to live life to the fullest and embrace life while you're alive,” Doherty said before getting emotional. “But I think cancer, for me, is what made me evaluate my life and change my priorities, and my priority at the moment is my mother.”

The “Beverly Hills 90210” star said she wanted to make things “easier” for her mother, knowing that if she did not survive cancer it would be very difficult for her mother, Rosa.

“I don't want her to deal with a bunch of stuff,” Doherty said. “I don't want her to have four storage units full of furniture.”

“None of us really need all the stuff we have,” she said. “And we could all do with a little downsizing and not be as cluttered as I used to be with all my furniture.”

Doherty's “obsession” with furniture is just one of her passions. She also talked about her dream of starting a horse rescue on her property in Tennessee, and how she was recently there packing her bags.

“It was really hard and emotional because I kind of felt like I was giving up on this dream of building this property and making a house for me and a house for my mom (there) and then expanding the barn,” Doherty said.

While her mother encouraged her to keep the possessions, Doherty said she decided to “downsize.”

Letting go is not easy for her, but instead of focusing on material possessions, she uses the money she gets from selling things to do things like take trips with her mother and make memories.

“I don't need this, it doesn't really bring me any great joy, but what brings me a lot of joy is taking my mom to places she's always wanted to go and building those memories with her.” Doherty said.

Last year, the “Charmed” star made the announcement on social media That the cancer has spread To her brain and bones.

She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 before going into remission two years later. In 2020, Doherty announced That the cancer has returned.
