Samsung February 2023 Security Update – Here’s what’s new

Every month, Google releases a general or general Android security bulletin. This is generally available and refers to any software fixes for potential security issues affecting Android and core parts of the mobile operating system.

The patch notes are also provided by Samsung, as updates for their devices include a number of fixes for the Galaxy. The Korean tech giant has now revealed the details of the February 2023 security update which is now slowly being rolled out to many Galaxy devices. February Correction Notes direct from Samsung List 5 fixes for “critical” security vulnerabilities, 43 “high” fixes, and no “medium” fixes.

Resolutions within the OTA include fixes for WindowsManagerService vulnerabilities. This can allow attackers to take a screenshot without notifying the user. This security update corrects another issue that could allow hackers to access your Secure Folder and capture app previews without consent.

With the launch of the Galaxy S23, the new One UI 5.1 is an integral part of the package. If you have an older device, you can get an OTA with a number of built-in tweaks and functionality. It’s a big update at almost 2 GB. Devices with the Samsung February 2023 Security Update

The exact sequence in which Samsung updates phones seems to vary from month to month, but in general, there is a loose pattern that the company often follows. Normally, a new security patch will arrive every month for premium devices like Galaxy S or Galaxy Z foldable devices.

This is followed by the introduction of affordable mobile phones, including the Galaxy A series, M series, and F series, although this is highly dependent on global markets and availability. Similarly, Samsung tends to release updates for newer devices before older ones. However, while this is often a roadmap, this is a fairly loose guide and isn’t always correct, so be sure to check out the full list below for your device(s).

This list will include a note on where the update first appeared and if it is also available in the US. As usual, the most recent additions will be marked wide.

Galaxy S series

Significantly the best of the best when it comes to Samsung phones, the Galaxy S series is often seen as the pinnacle of Android. The sales numbers back that up, too. Being at the top of the Samsung totem pole means that Galaxy S-series phones will likely make up the bulk of the February 2023 security patch list in the early weeks.

What’s interesting is that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G was the first such phone to get the February 2023 security update this month. rolling out From February 7thThe early 2022 phone is technically a cheaper version of the 2021 flagship Galaxy S21. It comes in a few flavors, as the Exynos 2100 variant is the first to be updated in select regions including Brazil. It is not clear when the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 version will be updated at this point.

While 5G has been around for nearly 5 years at this point, not every global region has access to ultra-fast network connections through wireless carriers. In these cases, Samsung often only offers 4G LTE devices and separates the S series.

A good example of this is the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. This trio usually ships with 5G as standard, but in some regions, there are only 4G options for purchase. Because of that, subtraction is often somewhat confusing as From February 9thThe S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra have both started receiving the February 2023 patch in South America.

A large-scale rollout of One UI 5.1 is now underway for a number of Samsung Galaxy devices with the patch also packaged in the February 2023 security patch as standard. For many in Europe, One UI 5.1 is now available for the Galaxy S20, S21 and S22 units after it was spotted via Reddit.

Due to differences between global Exynos models and their North American Snapdragon equivalents, there has been a slight delay in the release of unlocked US Galaxy S22 devices. It took nearly 24 hours for the February patch to hit North American shores, but this update includes a full-fat One UI 5.1 upgrade.

As part of the wider release of One UI 5.1, the Galaxy S20 FE or “Fan Edition” and Galaxy S21 FE are now starting to get a large OTA update (about 2GB). In regions where the February patch is not fully available, One UI 5.1 also bundles this along with all system related functionality.
