Although Gerwig and Robbie were not recognized individually, they each received Oscar nominations this week. Gerwig has been identified in Adapted scenario category Along with Barbie co-writer (and husband) Noah Baumbach, Robbie was nominated as a producer with a Best Picture nod for the film, along with three others.

In his statement, Gosling also paid tribute to his star America Ferrerawho received a surprise supporting actress nod for her performance in the film.

Below is Gosling's full statement, as provided to CNN:

I am extremely honored to be nominated by my peers alongside these outstanding artists in a year filled with so many amazing films. And I never thought I'd say this, but I also feel incredibly proud and honored that he represents a plastic doll named Ken.

But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making and globally celebrated film.

No one in the film would be recognized without their talent, persistence and genius.

To say I'm disappointed they weren't nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.

Against all odds, with nothing but a few soulless, scantily clad puppets, they thankfully made us laugh, broke our hearts, propelled culture and made history. Their work should be recognized alongside that of other highly deserving nominees.

However, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other amazing artists who contributed their talents to the making of this groundbreaking film.
