Two Russian soldiers have died and dozens became ill after apparently poisoning them with stuffed dumplings given to them by Ukrainians near the city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian intelligence officials said.
On Saturday, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine reported that the soldiers of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Division were serving delicious food to the citizens of the city of Izyum.
“As a result, one invader was killed simultaneously, and another 28 went to intensive care,” the officials wrote in a Facebook post.
It was not clear the conditions of the soldiers who were taken to the hospital.
The report came as another 500 soldiers fighting for Russian President Vladimir Putin were hospitalized with alcohol poisoning, as did Ukraine. It is unclear whether Russian forces obtained alcohol from Ukrainian citizens.
Ukrainian officials said Russia had written off the incidents as “non-combat losses”.
Meanwhile, Russia on Sunday launched strikes on the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Odessa.
Ole Senehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, said that Russian forces launched more than 20 raids on the city and its suburbs in the northeast of the country during the past day.
Sinihopov said that a missile strike on the city of Lozovo resulted in the injury of four people, and Russian tanks bombed a hospital in the town of Balaklia.
On Sunday morning, Russian forces also launched an air raid on the Black Sea port of Odessa in southern Ukraine. The Russian military said the targets were an oil processing plant and fuel depots around Odessa, the country’s largest port and home to its navy.
Ukrainian officials said they also found the bodies of women, children and local officials in the small town of Bucha near Kyiv, as Russian forces withdrew from the capital and its environs. Ukraine alleged that some of the women were raped and burned.
“There are murdered men whose bodies bear traces of torture,” added Oleksiy Aristovich, an aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “They had their hands tied and they were shot in the back of the head.”
Zelensky’s spokesman, Sergei Nikiforov, told the BBC that the shocking discoveries appeared “just like war crimes”.
The Kremlin has previously denied committing war crimes in what it calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Russia promised last week that it would “drastically” reduce its attacks around Kyiv and Chernihiv, although Ukraine warned that did not mean cities would not become targets again, and the United States and its allies predicted the move could simply mean Putin regrouping. .
