McIlroy’s victory came in bold Controversy over PGA Tour players playing LIV golf. As one of the faces of the PGA tour, McLroy’s success released a major statement and cast a shadow over LIV golf commissioner Greg Norman.
Norman told The Washington Post that McIlroy was “brainwashed” by the PGA Tour. McIlroy responded with a win at St. George’s, surpassing Norman on the list of PGA Tour wins of all time.
“This is the day I will remember for a long time. Twenty-one PGA Tours won, one more than the other,” he said after the win.
“I was extra motivated by what’s going on across the pool. The guy leading that tour has had 20 wins on the PGA Tour. He continued at the post-round press conference.
McIlroy finished the weekend with a draw under 19.
“I feel like it’s hard and hard to win the PGA tour. Look at the two guys I played with today. I went out with a lead and had to shoot the 8-under bar to get the job done. So the depth of talent on this tour is really impressive. It’s very good to be moving forward, “said McIlroy.
McLaren’s vision will now be set with some at the US Open LIV Golf Participants Set to play.
