Peep Show: The Fifth American Attempt to Remake a Successful Comedy Series Ongoing | peep show

Long-running British sitcom peep show It is set to be refurbished in the United States.

Emmy-nominated Atlanta writer Stephanie Robinson will serve as writer and executive producer for the series, which will premiere on FX. It will use the same narrative format as the original, which showed the events through the eyes of the two leads, but will be headed up by two characters.

According to FX, the series “follows the relationship between a long-suffering assistant and her boss, an emotionally unstable tech entrepreneur.” The pilot was ordered along with any other episodes to be slated afterward.

The co-creators of the original version, Jesse Armstrong and Sam Payne, as executive producers. In addition to Peep Show, the couple wrote the sitcom Fresh Meat and the acclaimed satire Four Lions, and Armstrong has since become an Emmy Award-winning succession maker.

It will mark the fifth attempt to remake Peep Show in the United States. In 2005, Fox cast Johnny Galecki in a pilot that was not picked up before Spike TV developed another in 2008, to be written by Armstrong and Payne, but it never came to fruition. There was another attempt by Starz in 2016, and more recently, in 2019, FX tried again with community writer Karey Dornetto.

The Peep Show became Channel 4’s longest-running comedy starting in 2003 and ending in 2015. It starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb and also featured Olivia Colman in an early role. Mitchell and Webb said Interview 2021 That they’ll think of a new series when they’re in their 60s.

Robinson’s credits also include What We Do at Shadows and Fargo. She also wrote the script for a biopic of the musical Chevalier, starring Kelvin Harrison Jr. The film premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be released in 2023.
