Two police officers and a firefighter died and other officers were injured after responding to a domestic incident in Burnsville, Minnesota, on Sunday, the state's governor said.

“Terrible news from Burnsville. “Two police officers and a firefighter lost their lives and other officers were injured while responding to a call of a family in danger,” Governor Tim Walls said. Published online.

“We must never take for granted the bravery and sacrifice that our police officers and first responders make every day. My heart goes out to their families today and the entire state of Minnesota stands with Burnsville,” Walls said. The governor added that flags across Minnesota will be flown at half-staff on Monday and that the state Department of Public Safety is “coordinating with local law enforcement to conduct an investigation.”

Officers responded to a call about domestic abuse, an official with the labor union representing Minnesota law enforcement and first responders said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the officers who responded to the domestic call this morning and the family of the first responder,” Jim Mortensen, executive director of the Law Enforcement Workforce Services Association, told CNN.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and her husband are praying for the authorities, he said Report.

“They were doing their job. They protected our community. John and I are praying for them, their families and the Burnsville PD this morning,” Klobuchar said.
