Konami has released update 1.4.0 for the PC version of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which won’t arrive on PlayStation 4, 5, Xbox Series
The patch notes were revealed on Konami’s website, and they’re fairly extensive, adding what look like new settings and addressing a number of bugs.
The biggest change to the original Metal Gear Solid — available in the collection alongside classic Metal Gear 1 and 2, as well as Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 — is the addition of new screen settings. Gamers can turn smoothing on or off, for example, or set the screen size to standard, pixel perfect, or 16:9.
Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater also received long-requested audio settings, which were noticeably missing from the original release along with several other features that upset fans. You can read the full patch notes below.

METAL GEAR SOLID – Home Collection Edition
New screen setup features have been added
- The following features have been added
- The settings for each of these features can be changed before and during gameplay
(1) Smoothing
- It can be turned on or off
- Softens the image when it is turned on, and creates a sharp image when it is turned off
(2) Game screen settings
- It can be set to standard, pixel perfect, or 16:9
- The Steam version of the game also features a full-screen feature
- Wallpaper, display area, and screen filter features are also available when using the standard or Pixel Perfect features
- The aspect ratio displayed may vary depending on your device/setup settings or details
(3) Screen filter
- It can be turned on or off
- Applies a filter that displays scan lines like those on a CRT TV when it is turned on
Audio settings feature added
- Game volume and main menu volume settings can be changed before playing
- Game size can only be changed during gameplay
Added controller response speed customization feature on Steam
- You can choose between fast and stable
- Some settings may experience unstable performance when set to fast
- If you experience any of these issues, please change your settings to stable
A fix has been applied to make the game prioritize user-defined designs on Steam
Some other minor issues have been fixed

Window mode has been added on Steam
- Added the ability to change the game to windowed mode before playing
- This feature can be turned on or off by pressing Alt + Enter on the keyboard
A fix has been applied to make the game prioritize user-mapped button designs on Steam
Fixed an issue where the last indicator would not appear during certain cut scenes
Fixed an issue where sea lice would not appear properly during certain cutscenes
Some other minor issues have been fixed

Audio settings feature added
- Game volume and main menu volume settings can be changed before playing
- Game size can only be changed during gameplay
Window mode has been added on Steam
- Added the ability to change the game to windowed mode before playing

Fixed an issue where some face colors were displayed with lower resolution
