“Every year seems to fly by a little faster. They say it does as you get older, but there is no doubt that the speed of life is accelerating at a faster rate than ever before.
I don’t think any of us have ever known a year like this. Life has become incredibly scary in this pandemic, but as we think it may end soon, it looks like it will. It’s bombing – the horrific war in Ukraine, the famines, the droughts, the floods…and we’ve lost our queen. Many of my friends were surprised at how upset they were by her death especially since we are not royals, but I think her death has become an epicenter of grief, for the unspoken loss that so many people have felt during the pandemic.
It’s been a crazy year for me. I’m still raving about the success of RUTH, being the number one track of this summer. What an honor! It’s been really exciting to see it do so well globally, but especially here in the UK and Australia; And also to see it reach number three in the US. It was a great feeling to see so many of the younger generation enjoying the song. It seems a lot of them thought I was a new artist! I love that!
Again, a big thank you to everyone who supported the track and made it a huge success.
I wonder where we will all be at the end of next year? I hope the war ends. I hope nurses are in a position to be valued – to be cherished. Let’s all hope next year will be better than this year. I keep thinking about Hope and how it was the last one out of Pandora’s Box. Sometimes it seems all that is glowing in the dark times we now find ourselves in.
I used a little Robin for some of my friends’ Christmas gifts this year. I felt that this humble little bird, which symbolizes Christmas, could also symbolize hope in the context of Emily Dickinson’s beautiful words: Hope is the thing that lies in the soul along with the feathers.
I’d like to think that on this Christmas when joy is so hard to find, hope will sit in all of our souls. Merry Christmas!
