Julian Sands’ brother Nick says he knows “in my heart” his brother is no longer alive, as the search for the missing British actor enters its eleventh day.
In the comments to his local Yorkshire newspaper, the Craven Herald“He has not yet been declared missing, and presumed dead,” said Mr. Sands, “but I know in my heart that he is gone. Whatever the sibling rivalry is for what it is, it would be just like him to get out there and prove me wrong.”
Sand was reported missing on January 13, prompting a major search and rescue effort led by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office.
The search effort was hampered by warnings of high winds near the San Gabriel Mountains, close to where the sands are thought to have disappeared.

Nick Sands, who lives in Gargrave, Yorkshire, and last saw his brother in October, told the local Craven Herald Newspaper: He has not yet been declared missing, and is presumed dead, but I know in my heart that he is gone. “On Monday, he had planned to join his brothers at our Monday Club for ale at Skipton; we shall miss him, and I think we shall raise a glass to him.”
He added, “When he was in LA, the Baldy Ranges was his favorite place, he would go there as often as possible, Julian liked to say ‘I never get a vacation but I take a break once in a while’ – well, now he rests somewhere he agrees.” He’s right.”

Rescuers say efforts to find the second missing hiker are bolstering a ground search for sand
A second hiker has appeared to have disappeared in Mount Baldy – which Deans say has given ground crews a new opportunity to search for Julian Sands.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Gene Chung, 75, has been missing since Sunday after he was last seen around 6 a.m. in a motorsport bound for Mount Baldy with two others.
An overnight search was conducted but the traveler could not be found. The search for Jin Zhong was due to continue on Tuesday but without the help of helicopters due to warnings of strong winds.
The agency revealed that the ground search for the 75-year-old has given its crews a new opportunity to search for Mr Sands.

‘Sand is always fun, cheerful and cultured,’ says a friend.
Julian Sands is “brainy in some ways and down-to-earth in others” and “always fun, upbeat, cultured and interesting to talk to”, as one friend put it. The Independent.
“We discussed art, literature, travel and architecture. Our conversations spanned many areas. He was very easy to talk to,” said Gordon Gano, director of Alpine Ascents International, who has known Sands for 20 years.
As the search expanded, a team from Alpine Ascents International run by Mr. Gano was brought in to assist the Sands family and officials in locating the 65-year-old.

Another hiker is disappearing on the mountain where Sands disappeared

The Sheriff’s Department is now searching for two missing Mount Baldy hikers
On Sunday, January 22, personnel from Sheriff Fontana’s Station Search and Rescue were asked to search for the missing hiker, Jin Chong.
Chung initially rode by car to Mount Baldy with two others but became separated from them upon their arrival, with the understanding that they would meet in the car at 2 p.m.
The other hikers returned safely but Chung is never seen or heard from.
