Jonathan Scott He has some very specific plans for his wedding .
during Interview On the You made it weird with Pete Holmes podcast, Royal brothers The star, 45, opened up about how he and his New girl The Fiance alum, 43, respect each other’s wants and needs — and that includes their desires for their future marriage.
The HGTV host shares that at his first wedding — to Kelsey Ollie, a flight crew scheduling coordinator in Las Vegas, whom he tied the knot with in 2007 and broke up with two years later — she refused to include bagpipes in the big day.
“This should have been a red flag for me, but I’m Scottish. I’m proud of my Scottish heritage,” Scott explains. “We had this beautiful outdoor wedding…our friends let us use their venue on the lake. It was great. But she forbade me from playing the bagpipes at any time during the wedding.
“I realize it’s too loud in church or something, but we were at the lake,” he adds.
For Deschanel, the tool of choice is not a problem.
“Zoe and I talked about things we wanted to do,” Scott says. “She knows the things that matter to me, and the things that hurt me. I’ve had other relationships where that person ended up doing the same thing that hurt me in a previous relationship. They knew that’s what happened in their previous lives, and they still do it.”
“That’s what I think is incredible — when you find someone who knows your sensitivities, who knows what hurt you,” he adds. “And they vow never to do that again.”
Deschanel expressed his appreciation His bagpipe-filled proposal in August.
“I proposed at Edinburgh Castle, and I had a piping strip set up…and we cleared the castle. “We were the only people there,” Scott recalls. Zoe’s two children helped him pop the question, holding up a sign and saying, “Zoe, will you marry me?”
Aside from the planned musical moment, the couple hasn’t shared many details of their big day yet.
“We were just enjoying bliss and not really figuring anything out,” Deschanel told PEOPLE in an October cover story, adding, “We love having a party.”
