Phoenix returns once again to star in the sequel, and Phillips is back to writing and directing. Besides Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, there are currently unconfirmed reports of Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Harry Lottie, and Jacob Loveland joining the cast as well.

The title of the movie seems like a perfect fit for the characters. The term “folie à deux” or “the folly of two” is a French term for a state of shared psychosis or a shared delusional disorder. Applying real-world medical terms to fictional characters can be difficult, but if there was ever a term to describe Joker and Harley Quinn, this sure sounds like it.
