“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 “will be James GunnThe last Marvel Cinematic Universe movie before he turned his attention to the DC Studios run, but he has another treat for fans before he leaves the MCU.
Next week, Gunn’s long-running passion project “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specialwill begin streaming on Disney+. This one-and-done event is a tribute to the popular “Star Wars Holiday Special” as well as the many warmly received specials that families watch every Christmas.

In a new interview with Hollywood ReporterGunn opened up about his creative process behind the holiday special. As it turns out, his passion for the subject matter and familiarity with the cast and characters made him an incredibly easy screenplay to write.
“I’ll be honest, I wrote the script in a few hours, so it just kind of leaked out to me,” Gunn said. “Everything about filming was easy. Everything about getting shows out of people was easy, while ‘Vol. 3 “It was torture in every way.”
Gunn explained that he was able to achieve a higher production value than would normally be possible for a Christmas TV show because he shot it on the same sets as the next year’s feature film. In addition to saving money, it also allowed him to create more narrative synergy between the two projects.
“I shot them one at a time,” he said. “One of the great benefits of the special was being able to bring elements into the movie that I don’t have to explain afterwards at the beginning of the movie, like Cosmo the Spacedog [Maria Bakalova] Or the fact that they live in Head of Knowhere, their new residence, or introduce their spaceship, Bowie, which is, in fact, this four-story set. It’s the most amazing deck I’ve ever had, and so we were able to take advantage of those decks we had the money to build for Vol. 3, in private. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had that kind of money to build these multi-million dollar kits.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special begins streaming on Disney+ on Friday, November 25th.
