It's the Kingpin's time to shine
Echo has arrived and despite its small size, it can't shake its own little corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe one bit. Marvel's first Spotlight series aired all five episodes on Tuesday night, but the show didn't make waves of its own until the series' final moments. In typical Marvel fashion, it's revealed during a brief mid-credits scene.

When Daredevil first appears EchoUnsurprisingly, it was Kingpin who had the biggest impact on the series finale. EchoA mid-credits scene plays in the background as Wilson Fisk sits in his private jet. New York City is in the thick of a heated mayoral election season and no clear front-runner has emerged. Indeed, pundits describe it as a fair fight and joke that a bare-knuckle boxer would have the better shot.
More to the point, the Elder has noticed that people are practically begging Mayor Kingpin. Far from conquering the universe (or multiverse) of many MCU villains' ambitions, the Kingpin seems content to set his sights entirely on the Big Apple for the time being.
Wilson Fisk has been the mayor of New York City in the comics before – that's the most recent one. He ran into office and cheated (voter fraud) on the platform of outlawing superheroes in New York City – which is full of evil Captain America trying to take over America, not as infamous a position as you'd like. They think He Succeeds: Superheroes are still technically banned in the NYC of Marvel Comics today, though Daredevil, Spider-Man, and others still struggle with corruption and nefarious people, and the next mayor, Luke Cage, tries to repeal the law. .
Whether or not the MCU follows that exact template (Fisk outlaws a costumed vigilante, tries to rub shoulders with really powerful shady billionaires, and his inevitable downfall) Fisk's mayoral seat could be a plot point for a whole bunch of future projects. The MCU now has few characters in New York, and most of them are young and street-level, and therefore likely to be influenced by the Kingpin.
For one thing, Peter Parker returns as friendly neighbor Spider-Man after everyone forgets his identity. No way home. Plus Kate Bishop's Hawkeye, Florence Book's Yelena Belova whenever she's in town, Daredevil and whoever his show introduces (Whenever it is actually released), as well as Kamala Khan, although she may have definitely graduated to mid-range conflicts The Marvels.
Now, if all of this sounds like the Kingpin is the perfect big bad to team up against these heroes, that's apparently right. Echo producer Brad Winterbaum told Screen Rant's Joe Deckelmeier He hit the nail on the head when he called Kingpin “the Thanos of the MCU's street-level corner.”
