Updated on Sunday with Ed Sheeran's reaction: In the battle between British pop stars Ed Sheeran and Sam Ryder, both nominated for Apple TV+ Ted Lasso – Grammy Award-winner Sheeran was the recipient of the Emmy for Outstanding Music and Song.
It was the first Emmy nomination and first win for the “Perfect” and “Shape of You” singer-songwriter, who was not in attendance at Saturday's Emmy Awards to accept the statuette. He shared the “Beautiful Game” award with his writing team, prolific hitmakers Max Martin and Foy Vance.
The trio's Emmy Award-winning song, performed by Sheeran, was featured on Ted Lasso The finale of “So Long, Goodbye.”
Hours after the ceremony, Sheeran took to Instagram to celebrate the victory.
He wrote: “I wasn't expecting to win at all. It was a real surprise when I woke up to the news. I wish I was there but I'm about to start the Asian Tour so I had to be somewhere else unfortunately.” Next to the video from the recording of “Beautiful Game”.
He talked about how the team communicated with him, Martin, and Vance Ted Lasso And how “Beautiful Game” came together.

Although Yankovic didn't take home the Music and Lyrics award for “Now You Know,” it was a good night for him. Stranger: The Yankovic Storywhich won Music Composition for a Limited Series or Anthology, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score) and for Outstanding Television Movie.
Ted Lasso He also ended the night with two Emmy Awards as Sam Richardson won for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
