Helldivers 2’s positive Steam score has declined as PC players respond to Sony’s PSN requirements

The well-received Helldivers 2 originally received a “mixed” review score on Steam after more than 100,000 “mostly negative” review bombs from PC players unhappy with having to log in to Sony’s PlayStation Network to continue playing.

Developer Arrowhead said these link requirements were made optional when the game was released at the beginning of February due to technical issues. However, the initial “grace period” for Helldivers 2 players on Steam has now ended, and yesterday, the Helldivers 2 publisher announced that players on Steam will soon be required to link to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account. The news did not go well.

Thousands of PC gamers have now responded to both Arrowhead and Sony and changed their positive reviews to negative ones. Some cite Sony’s data leaks As a reason for not linking their account, while others blame Sony.”Dictatorship” And “Corporate greed“.

Sony’s vague messaging exacerbated the problem. For example, on the website page that explains how to log in to PSN when playing a game on PC in the UKnow says that “some PlayStation games may require you to sign in and link to a PSN account.”

However, on American version of the same page“Logging in to PSN is optional when playing a PlayStation game on PC,” Sony advises.

At the time of writing, it appears that Sony is refusing to refund PC gamers who are unhappy with the routing.

“Oh, right into the review score,” Johan Bilstedt, Helldivers 2 creative director and Arrowhead CEO, wrote on Twitter.

“Well, I guess that’s justified. Sorry everyone for how this all turned out. I hope we can make up for it and regain trust by providing a continued great gaming experience. I just want to make great games!”

Accused of “sympathy hunting”, Bilstedt He said“The team will have to make up for that using the leverage we have: delivering great gaming experiences.”

ICYMI, earlier this week the developer added another way for Helldivers 2 players to die by friendly fire. Now, bullets that bounce off heavily armored enemies will “correctly” hit the Helldiver who fired them. I apologize in advance to anyone I hit.
