A modest start to the second half here at Craven Cottage. Fulham sit a bit deeper and Liverpool try to get out from behind.

Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott both came on for Liverpool at the start of the second half. Thiaku walks slowly with his injury.

half time: Fulham 1-0 Liverpool – Mitrovic’s header was the difference as Fulham really outplayed Liverpool here. The Reds came close on a few occasions, but Fulham were completely new signings Pereira and Balhinha in their leading role who were particularly impressive.

Main storyline

For Fulham, it’s been a wild ride with two relegations to the Premier League and three promotions in the last five seasons. Life is dull at Craven Cottage. With the Serbian goal machine (at least in the second tier) full of crosses, all their hopes are once again pinned on Aleksandar Mitrovic and the hope that he can finally show more talent in the Premier League. Marco Silva has revealed Fulham haven’t made many signings this summer and staying on would be a huge achievement. Silva likes to counter-attack and he needs a good start to the season to generate positive vibes. Side note: Fulhamerica is still going strong this season with Tim Ream and Anthony Robinson in the lead roles.

Liverpool have had a pretty decent and quiet offseason overall. They sold Sadio Mane at the start of the summer, but his replacement, club-record signing Darwin Nunez, looks set to be the next forward star at Anfield. Oh yeah, they also managed to sign Mohamed Salah to a new long-term deal. Klopp’s side have had some strange results in pre-season, but they have warmed up well for the new campaign, and the big questions are how Núñez, Diaz and Salah will mesh as a front three, and how much gas the likes of Jordan Henderson will add. And Thiago Alcanadara has left in the tank another push for all four trophies.
