The mayor’s office sent out a prospectus for Antione Mithon, Nicholson Fontilus, Peter Berlus, Anderson Petit-Frere, Steevenson Jacquet, and Oriol Jean. The bulletin said that the missing were men between the ages of 18 and 32 who were in the United States to participate in a “football competition”.
The group was participating in the 2022 Special Olympics Pan American Games in Orlando, which began on Sunday and runs through June 12.
“The individuals are all adults, five of whom are non-Special Olympics athletes and one adult has an intellectual disability,” Special Olympics said in a statement to CNN. “The welfare of these delegates is our number one concern. Local authorities have indicated that they have no reason to believe that the health and safety of any of the individuals is at risk. To expand the reach and effectiveness of law enforcement efforts to locate these individuals, they have been reported as missing.”
The bulletin said the six went missing in Kissimmee — just south of Orlando — and were last seen on Monday afternoon at about 2:30 p.m.
The statement said that they all handed over their room keys and left their bags and personal belongings behind. The statement indicated that the reason for their departure from the Games is unknown. No false play is suspected, according to the sheriff’s office.
“We are in contact with Walt Disney World, Special Olympics, our law enforcement and federal partners,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
