A24 has shared a first look at Dwayne Johnson as UFC champion Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie’s film Crushing machine.
The only photo sees the actor and former professional wrestler sitting in the corner of the ring mid-fight, wearing what appears to be prosthetics so he can create a more Kerr-like appearance. Joining Johnson and his coaches for the first look is special Jungle trip Co-star Emily Blunt, who plays Kerr’s wife Dawn Staples can be seen sitting ringside.
Crushing machine It will be Safdie’s first solo film following his creative split from older brother Josh, and will follow Kerr’s journey as a professional fighter and his struggle with substance abuse. A release date has not been announced yet.
During his time as an active fighter, Kerr was a two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, World Vale Tudo Championship winner and a competitor for PRIDE FC. As a wrestler, he was an NCAA Division I champion and also medaled at the World Cup and Pan American Games.
