Cycling champion Ethan Boys dies after being hit by a car in San Francisco

(CNN) Multiple cycling championship winner Ethan Boyes died after being hit by a car in San Francisco on Tuesday, according to police.

Boyes was a 10-time national champion and currently holds the world record for men ages 35 to 39 in the 1,000-meter time trial, according to USA Cycling, the governing body for U.S. cycling.

Boyes was riding a bike on Arguello Boulevard, south of Washington Street in San Francisco’s Presidio Park, around 4 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a car, according to US Park Police Saturday. Park Police responded to the scene.

US Park Police told CNN that Boyes was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and was later declared dead.

Police said the driver of the car was also taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The US Park Police are investigating the incident with the US Attorney’s Office.

The Philo Sports Center, where Boise trained, has been praised for his contributions to the sport of cycling.

San Francisco Bicycle Alliance too issued a statement Mourning the death of Boise.

“Today we join the cycling community in mourning Ethan Boyes, who was hit by a car while riding his bike at the Presidio,” the coalition wrote Friday. “Ethan was a champion cyclist and a beloved figure in the cycling community.”
