‘You have to be stupid’: Fiden responds to Fox News reporter’s Ukraine questions
President Joe Biden is preparing to order the release of up to one million barrels of oil a day from strategic petroleum reserves in an effort to curb rising prices following the imposition of tough sanctions on Russia by the United States and its allies over its occupation of Ukraine.
The announcement is expected on Thursday.
Mr Biden discussed the situation in Ukraine with Ukrainian Volodymyr Zhelensky. The call comes as Ukrainian and Russian negotiators are discussing an expansion deal that could see Russian troops fall from an area near Kiev.
Both the White House and the Pentagon have claimed that senior advisers to Russian President Vladimir Putin are misrepresenting the progress of the war.
Mr Biden also delivered a speech on the status of the corona virus infection before receiving his second booster shot of the Pfizer vaccine.
Meanwhile, after the controversial nomination hearings, which saw Republican senators harassing him about radical racism, Gotanji Brown Jackson chose a key supporter: Maine Senator Susan Collins, who became the first Republican to declare a vote to confirm him.
Joe Biden could enact the Defense Production Act this week for vital minerals
CNN reports that Joe Biden may implement the Defense Production Act soon this week.
Mr Fidens’ move is aimed at helping domestic production of vital minerals needed to produce electric vehicles and batteries for long-term storage.
Citing a source familiar with these developments, CNN said that doing so would add important minerals such as lithium, nickel, graphite, cobalt and manganese to the list of products under the 1950 Defense Manufacturing Act.
The law gives the government more control over emergencies to enable industrial production.

Joe Biden meets parents of former U.S. Navy detainees in Russia
Joe Biden met with the parents of a former U.S. Navy officer who was imprisoned in Russia and promised to end the family’s “atrocities.”
Trevor Reid is serving a nine-year sentence in Russia in 2019 for assaulting a police officer while intoxicated.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Wednesday that President Biden had met with Trevor Reid’s parents, Joey and Paula Reid, who are being held in Russia.
He added: “During their meeting, the President reaffirmed his commitment to continue working to secure the release of Trevor, Paul Whelan and other abducted Americans in Russia and elsewhere.
“We understand the pain of all of Trevor’s family and friends enduring the dream of his absence, and we owe it to ourselves to end it.”
Mr Reid, meanwhile, is on a hunger strike for the second time and is being held in solitary confinement.
